Stalling Problem After a Cold Start

I have a ’72 2002 with a single-barrel carburetor which I maintain in top shape. However, I am persistently troubled by one problem which I hope some reader may be able to help me with.

On rainy days, the engine wants to stall for the first five or ten minutes of operation after a cold start. At all other times, no problem. I’ve checked or replaced ignition wires and vacuum hoses, verified that the air filter winter/summer flap is in the correct position, etc. Anyone know of a fix?

’72 2002’s seem to have this problem occur frequently because of an improper idle jet. The pragmatic approach is to change the number 40 idle jet to a number 45. The new jet will cost about $2.20 from your dealer. Tech Ed.
