BMW 2002 Oil Consumption and White Smoke

My 1974 BMW 2002 is plagued with high oil consumption, on the order of one quart every 400 miles. Great plumes of white smoke exit the tail pipe when slowing down. The engine was rebuilt, and the problem was solved for around 3000 miles, but it started again. The head was worked on, but the problem remains. Power is down and fuel economy dropped to 20 mpg.

The white smoke is caused by your brake master cylinder leaking brake fluid into the booster unit. The fluid is drawn out under certain conditions, burns, and exits as white smoke. If the work that. was done on your engine was done well, why should the problem persist? Something has not been done correctly. Tech Ed.
