How to Make a Simple 12-Volt Power Supply

Want a 12-volt power supply to test such devices as radios, carburetor thermo-valves, electromagnetic shut-off solenoids, washer pump motors, etc? No need to jury-rig leads to your battery!

Next time you’re at the discount store or electronics shop, buy a cigarette lighter plug adapter with lead attached and a couple of alligator clips. Split the end of the dual-cord lead into two wires about 6″ or more. Snip off a couple of inches on one (so there won’t be any possibility of shorting out), then attach the alligator clips. Some come with red and black plastic insulator boot which are best for this application.

Then, when you want a 12-volt power source, just plug in and clip on!
