Replacing the flasher mechanism on a 1970 BMW 2002 runs about $34 plus labor. One can use a Volkswagen Autobahn flasher instead. Made in the United States by Tung-Sol, it costs $3.50 and the hookup is made as follows.
BMW flasher wires VW-Tung-Sol
- 49a (2 yellow-green) L socket
- 49 (1 green-purple) X socket
- Kbl or C (1 black-white) P socket
- 31 (2 brown) unmarked
The BMW plastic socket harness has to be cut with a razor blade and the four lugs attached separately.
