Battery replacement tips for 1972 Bavaria
I replaced my OEM battery in a 1972 Bavaria with a Ward's 36-month guarantee Model 22F. This battery is slightly smaller and slightly higher than the OEM battery. Install it in the battery box full toward the driver and shim the clamp with a piece of aluminum 1/16 x 4 x 1/4. This will provide more than 1/4" clearance between the positive terminal and the hood reinforcing member. You might want to stick something non-conductive over either the battery terminal or to the hood member to make sure there will be no contact. The battery cost was less than $25.
